Visitors Information Chamber of Commerce 112 E. 4th St 738-1065 Walsenburg, settled in 1859 by Don Miguel Antonio Leon, was originally named LaPlaza de los Leones. In 1870 Fred Walsen, a Prussian immigrant, established a trading post in the community. The town incorporated in 1873 and was named after Walsen, its first mayor.
