Craig, founded in 1888, by W. H. Tucker to capitalize on a strong demand for building lots. The town was named after the major financial backer, Rev. Bayard Craig. Although Craig became the trading and social center for a large area, the dreams of the founders were not immediately realized. In later years Craig was to become the ranching center for sheep, cattle and wheat growers, a major producer of electricity for the state and a haven for outdoor enthusiasts.
