Colorado Resort Adventure Guide

South Central Region
Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame, Colorado Springs, CO

by Dawn Janov

While visiting Colorado, what better way to set into motion an Old West tempo than the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs.

Displays of cowboy gear, chaps, hats, boots and spurs and antique rodeo equipment spark the cowboy in all of us. Western art exhibits and the Hall of Champions put faces, names and action into the mix. Different video shows, one highlights the history and action of the early rodeo while another video features the progression of the sport today, play throughout the day.

Cowboys taming the wild bucking bronco into useful riding horses and branding the stock by catching calves with a lasso were all part of early ranching that makes up our western heritage. It was these normal cowboy chores that developed into the events of the rodeo as we know it today.

Outside the Hall of Fame is a replica of a rodeo arena. Just the smell and heat of live rodeo animals in adjacent pens, kicking up a little dust, stirs our senses with the excitement of bygone days. Rodeo action is frozen in stone in the nearby sculpture garden.

Kick up a hitch in your get-a-long and mosey on over to this tribute to the American Cowboy!
